“IT IS I; DO NOT BE AFRAID.” – JOHN 6:20
A young mother boards a night flight with her toddler. Mid-flight, turbulence rocks the plane. The child screams. The mother cannot stop the shaking. But she holds him tight and whispers, “I’m here.” He stops crying. The storm has not ended. But he is not afraid anymore.
The disciples row across the sea in the dark. Jesus is not with them. A strong wind rises. The waves grow fierce. They struggle for hours, making little progress. Then they see a figure walking on the water. They are terrified. Jesus speaks: “It is I; do not be afraid.” They take him into the boat. Immediately, they reach the shore. The storm does not stop because Jesus arrives. Their fear stops. Like the mother who could not calm the storm but calmed her child, Jesus does not always still the waves. He stills us. Today, you are in some dark water—anxiety, grief, failure. You cannot see the shore. But he is walking toward you. He says your name. “It is I. Do not be afraid.” Take him in. The shore is closer than you think.

A Journey of Reflection and Action
Pause in stillness to name your fears before God, write them honestly, meditate on His presence in your storm, listen for His voice in prayer, and gently remind someone else that Christ is near even when the waves remain.
Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, in the midst of our storms and fears, remind us that You are near; calm our hearts when life feels overwhelming, help us to receive Your presence with trust, and give us courage to rest in Your peace, knowing You are leading us safely to the shore. Amen.
