Your Prayer Has Been Heard

“Fear not, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard.” – Luke 1:13

An elderly lighthouse keeper polished the great lamp every dawn for forty years, though storms silenced the horn and ships no longer passed. One foggy night, a lost freighter spotted the faint gleam miles away, turned in time, and was saved. The keeper wept—he never knew his daily faithfulness had been guiding someone after all.

Both Manoah’s wife and Elizabeth were barren—marked by shame in their cultures—yet both received the same angelic promise: a son set apart as a Nazirite from the womb (Judg 13:5; Luke 1:15). Zechariah, righteous and blameless, had prayed for a child so long ago that the prayer had turned into resignation. When Gabriel announced, “Your prayer has been heard,” Zechariah’s stunned doubt earned him nine months of silence—time to learn God is never late and never forgets. We stop saying them out loud, yet heaven keeps the record. The same Root of Jesse who brought Samson out of impossibility and John out of Elizabeth’s closed womb is still the God who answers long-forgotten prayers. Your waiting is not wasted; it is preparation. Keep tending the lamp. One day soon the angel’s words will break over your life again: “Fear not—your prayer has been heard.”
