Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

“But who do you say that I am?” – Luke 9:20

A professor pauses mid-lecture and asks, “What have others told you about me?” Students list rumours: “You’re strict… never give A’s… play favourites.” Then he asks, “But what do you say, after being in my class?” Silence. One student finally says, “You’re the only teacher who actually cares if we learn.” The professor smiles. “Now we can begin.”

Jesus wasn’t interested in public opinion polls when He asked, “Who do you say that I am?” He wanted a personal response. Many had labelled Him—prophet, healer, even troublemaker—but Peter’s answer cut through the noise: “The Christ.” This moment shifted everything. To recognise Jesus as the Christ is to see not just what He does, but who He truly is—our Redeemer, our Saviour. And like the professor in the story, Jesus isn’t satisfied with surface-level impressions. He asks each of us to reflect honestly: not just what we’ve heard about Him, but what we’ve come to believe. In that answer lies the beginning of deeper faith, fundamental transformation, and eternal relationship. Don’t stop at what others say—let your own heart speak. Christ doesn’t want your memorised answers—He wants you.
