“This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” – Mark 7:6
A restaurant can pass every health inspection and still serve tasteless food. The kitchen shines, checklists are completed, and hygiene rules are followed. Yet customers leave disappointed. The standards were met, but care was missing. Clean counters can’t replace attention to flavour. Compliance kept things safe, but love for the craft never reached the plate. No one cooked with joy.
Jesus warns of the danger of honouring God outwardly while keeping the heart distant (Mark 7:6). Like a spotless restaurant that served no nourishment, religious precision without love leaves people hungry. Solomon prays for a God who cannot be contained yet listens to sincere hearts, not to perfect structures (1 Kings 8:27–30). Traditions can guide faith, but when they replace compassion and obedience, they hollow out worship. Jesus calls His listeners back to the core—love of God that flows into love of neighbour, especially those easily neglected. Authentic faith is not about flawless form but about faithful alignment. Today, examine your habits honestly. Where routine has replaced relationship, invite God back in. Let your practices serve love again. When the heart returns, worship regains its flavour.
