“There shall not be left here one stone upon another.” – Luke 21:6
A family business, grown over generations into a towering empire, suddenly collapsed. Descendants watched as assets were sold and the headquarters demolished. Amid the rubble, they found their grandfather’s journal of founding principles—timeless values that guided them to rebuild something even more meaningful and enduring than the original structure.
Like the family who discovered their true foundation in timeless principles rather than a building, Jesus shows that even the most sacred earthly institutions are temporary. The temple’s destruction reminds us that our security cannot rest in human structures—physical, financial, or religious—but in God’s eternal kingdom. Everything built by human hands will eventually crumble, yet Christ’s reign endures forever. He is the living Stone, rejected by builders but chosen as the eternal cornerstone. When personal temples collapse—health fails, relationships fracture, or institutions fall—we can trust God’s foundational truths remain. Our hope is not in preserving temporary structures, but in the resurrection life that rebuilds from ruins. Stand firm on Christ, the unshakable foundation, and you will remain secure even when every stone falls.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Write in your journal one “structure” in your life that has crumbled or changed, and what God taught you through it.
- Meditate on Luke 21:6 and 1 Peter 2:4–6, slowly, prayerfully, inviting the Holy Spirit to shift your trust from temporary things to Christ.
- Share with a trusted friend or family member one area where you’re learning to rely more on Jesus as your cornerstone.
- If you meet in a fellowship or Bible group, discuss together how God sometimes rebuilds better by first allowing certain things to fall apart.
Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are our sure foundation when all else shakes. Help us place our confidence in Your eternal kingdom and not in the structures we create. Give us grace to trust that when stones fall, You are building something deeper, stronger, and everlasting. Amen.
