Standing Firm in the Storms of Life

Everyone who…hears My words and does them… is like a man building a house on rock.” – Luke 6:47–48

A man trained for weeks for a marathon. On race day, heavy rain fell and roads turned slick. Many slowed or quit, but he pressed on—not because the weather eased, but because his training prepared him for it. Later he said, “The weather didn’t stop me. I ran with what was already in me.”

Jesus teaches that a life built on His Word is like a house with deep, unshakable foundations. The storms aren’t the problem—it’s what we’ve built on that matters. Like the runner in the story, our ability to keep going isn’t found in how smooth life is, but in what has been formed in us before the storm came. When we practise forgiveness, humility, and trust in Christ daily—even when no one sees—we are laying down rock beneath our lives. Christ Himself is that solid ground (1 Corinthians 10:4), the foundation who holds steady when everything else shifts. Each act of obedience, each prayer, each step of forgiveness forms the quiet discipline that anchors us when trials come. Don’t measure your faith by how loud the wind is—measure it by Who you’re standing on. In Christ, you can endure.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

  • Journal: Write about areas of your life that feel shaky—where storms often unsettle you.
  • Scripture Meditation: Spend time with Luke 6:47–48, asking the Spirit to show you what “building on the rock” means for you today.
  • Prayer Practice: Offer a short, daily prayer of surrender, inviting Christ to be your firm foundation.
  • Share: Encourage a friend by sharing a personal testimony of how God carried you through a difficult season.
  • Group Discussion: In fellowship, discuss what disciplines (prayer, forgiveness, worship, obedience) help keep faith steady when challenges come.

Join Us in Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the Rock that never shifts. Teach me to build my life on Your Word and not on fleeting things. Strengthen me to stand firm in storms, and help me walk daily in forgiveness, humility, and trust. Amen.
