‘Your sorrow will turn to joy- John 16:20-22 –
A young boy watches his older sister pack for university. She’s been his daily companion—helping with homework, sharing laughs, standing up for him. As she hugs him goodbye, tears fill his eyes. He doesn’t understand why someone so good has to leave. Months later, her letters show she’s thriving—and still guiding him from afar. Her leaving wasn’t abandonment, but the beginning of something greater for them both.
Jesus spoke these words to grieving disciples, assuring them that His departure would bring the Spirit’s coming (John 16:7). Like the sister’s absence, what felt like loss became a doorway to deeper love and growth. God often uses temporary sorrow for eternal purpose. When grief feels overwhelming, remember: Jesus wept with those He loved (John 11:35). He doesn’t dismiss your pain—He transforms it. Cling to His promise: Today’s ache may be tomorrow’s joy. Trust His timing.

Merciful Father, thank You for Your promise in John 16:20-22 that my sorrow will turn to joy. When I feel the ache of loss, remind me that You wept too, as in John 11:35. Transform my pain into deeper love and growth, as You did for the disciples. Help me trust Your timing, knowing today’s grief will bloom into tomorrow’s joy. Amen.
