Rooted in God

“BLESSED IS THE ONE WHO TRUSTS IN THE LORD.” – JEREMIAH 17:7

Two identical plants sit in different places. One is watered regularly and placed in sunlight. The other is left dry in a corner. Over time, the first grows strong and green, while the second slowly withers. The difference is not the seed, but where its roots receive life.

Jeremiah contrasts two ways of living: trusting in human strength or trusting in the Lord. One life becomes dry like a desert shrub; the other grows like a tree planted by water, steady even in heat (Jeremiah 17:7–8). Psalm 1 repeats the same image of a fruitful tree rooted near flowing water. In the Gospel, the rich man lives comfortably yet ignores the suffering at his gate. His problem is not wealth itself but a heart rooted in self-interest. Lazarus, though poor, ultimately rests in God’s care. Jesus warns that the choices we make now shape our eternity. Lent invites us to examine where our hearts are planted. Are we rooted in comfort, pride, and security, or in trust and compassion? Today, deepen your roots in God. A life anchored in Him will remain strong even in difficult seasons.
