“If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed…” – Luke 17:6
A father and his daughter were walking home when they found their path blocked by a heavy fallen branch. She placed her small hands on it and pushed with all her might. Though her push alone didn’t move it, her effort prompted her father to step in, and together they easily rolled the obstacle away.
Jesus redirects our focus from the size of our faith to the object of it—His limitless power. A mustard seed, though small, holds the potential for immense growth. Similarly, our faith, no matter how small or mixed with doubt, is a channel through which God’s power is expressed. Instead of lamenting our weak trust, we should act upon it, however feebly. When you cry out, “I believe; help my unbelief!”, you place your small seed of trust in God’s hands. Offering God your tiny **“push”—a whispered prayer, a small step of obedience—**you are not working alone. It is His strength that uproots trees and moves mountains. Your faith doesn’t need to be great; it just needs to be in a great God. Offer Him your mustard seed today and witness His incredible work.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Journal about moments when your faith felt small but still moved you to act—what was the outcome?
- Meditate on Luke 17:6 and Mark 9:24, asking the Spirit to deepen your trust in God’s strength.
- Pray a simple prayer of surrender: “Lord, I believe—help my unbelief.”
- Share a testimony of how God worked through your “small faith” to encourage someone else.
- Discuss in your faith circle how small steps of obedience can reveal God’s power in everyday life.
Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach us to trust You even when our faith feels small. Remind us that Your strength is enough for every obstacle we face. Help us to act in obedience, believing that You work powerfully through even our mustard seed faith. Amen.
