Mary’s Yes

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” – Luke 1:38

A master weaver approached a young apprentice with a bundle of rare, golden thread. “I can create a tapestry that will tell a story for generations,” she said, “but I need your two steady hands to work the loom exactly as I instruct.” The apprentice, leaving her own simple projects unfinished, placed her hands on the loom and said, “My hands are yours. Weave as you will.”

Where Eve, in doubt, took fruit that led to death, Mary, in faith, received the Word that brings life. Her fiat—“Let it be to me according to your word”—is the perfect model of redemptive surrender. It wasn’t passive acceptance but active, obedient faith in God’s impossible promise (Luke 1:37). Mary entrusted her life fully to God’s hands, like an apprentice placing her hands on the master weaver’s loom, allowing Him to craft a story far greater than her own. By her “yes,” she became the New Eve, the vessel through whom the “seed” would crush the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15). Her surrender unlocked God’s eternal plan to adopt us as His children (Ephesians 1:5). God invites us to set aside our plans and trust His perfect will. Will you, like Mary, offer your life as a blank page for God to write His story? Your faithful “yes” can become a gateway.
