“…be it done to me according to thy word.” – Luke 1:38
A young nurse in a refugee camp was asked to stay an extra year when everyone else was leaving. She has family waiting for her back at home. Yet, seeing the rows of frightened mothers and sick children, she heard an inner whisper, then she tore up her plane ticket and whispered, “Okay, I’ll stay.” That quiet yes saved hundreds of lives and reshaped her future forever…
Mary’s response was the ultimate act of surrender: a young woman facing an impossible situation chose to trust God’s word completely. In that moment, all of history held its breath waiting for one human “yes.” Her fiat reminds every believer that God’s greatest works often begin with ordinary people who dare to say, “Whatever You ask, I’m in.” Today, the same God who spoke to Mary still speaks—through Scripture, circumstances, or that quiet nudge in your spirit—inviting you to something bigger than you can manage alone. The plans He has are good, but they almost always stretch us beyond our comfort and control. Let Mary’s courageous trust inspire you. Wherever you feel afraid or uncertain, offer your own simple, honest yes to God today. He never forces; He only waits for your willing heart—and when it comes, He does the impossible through it.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Journal: Write down the last time you sensed God asking you for a “yes” that felt costly or scary. What held you back? What would total surrender look like today?
- Scripture Meditation: Slowly pray Luke 1:26–38 phrase by phrase. Pause at Mary’s words “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” and let them become your own prayer.
- Share: Tell one person today about a time God turned your small “yes” into something bigger than you imagined.
- Group Discussion (perfect for small groups or family): “When has saying ‘yes’ to God required you to tear up your own plans? How did God meet you in that surrender?”
Join Us in Prayer
Heavenly Father, like Mary, we want to say a wholehearted “yes” to Your will, even when it disrupts our plans and stretches our faith. Quiet our fears, strengthen our trust, and let our lives become a living fiat that brings Your light into the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
