Watch at all times, praying that you may have strength.” – Luke 21:36
A security guard walked his quiet rounds through an empty office building. Most nights were uneventful, yet he knew that drifting into distraction could mean missing something important. He paused often, checking doors, scanning corridors, reminding himself why the work mattered. His alertness wasn’t about fear—it was about responsibility,
Jesus’ call to “watch… praying at all times” is an invitation to interior alertness, a readiness shaped not by anxiety but by love. Like the guard moving through silent halls, we journey through our days with moments that seem ordinary, even uneventful. Yet spiritual drowsiness—worry, overindulgence, or the weight of routine—can cause us to lose sight of God’s quiet movements. Christ urges us to stay present, to let prayer sharpen our attention so we can recognise His grace in both small and significant moments. When the heart is watchful, strength grows, clarity returns, and hope becomes steadier. Do not let the world lull you to sleep. Let prayer keep your spirit awake, and trust that Christ will give you the strength to stand firm before Him. Root yourself in worship and live each day in hopeful anticipation of standing joyfully in the presence of the Son of Man.
