“He called His disciples and chose twelve of them.” – Luke 6:13
In a small village, a mason volunteered to help build a school, offering to work for half his pay so children could learn. He was asked to lay the foundation—work no one would see. When the school opened, no one noticed his stones, yet he smiled, knowing his hidden labour upheld their future.
Before dawn, Jesus withdrew to pray, then chose twelve ordinary men to become the living foundation of His mission. Among them were Simon and Jude—names spoken less often, yet their faith helped carry Christ’s message to new lands. Paul described the Church as “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone” (Ephesians 2:20). Their witness reminds us that calling is not about prominence but participation in God’s design. Like the village mason who offered his skill for less so children could learn, our quiet obedience may go unseen but strengthens the faith of others. When we live in unity and service, we become part of that holy structure—an enduring habitation of God through the Spirit. You are a living stone in God’s masterpiece.
