“NO ONE AFTER LIGHTING A LAMP COVERS IT…” – LUKE 8:16
A young nurse working the night shift at a small rural clinic greets patients with warmth and prays silently before each injection or diagnosis. One night, a patient in pain says, “There’s peace around you. Are you miles and nods, realizing her quiet light has been shining all along.
Jesus reminds us in Luke 8:16 that no one lights a lamp and hides it. The light we carry—His truth, love, and presence—is meant to be seen, not buried. Christ, the Light of the World (John 8:12), now shines through us. To shine, we must live with integrity, boldness, and openness. Even simple acts of kindness, patience, and honesty can radiate His glory in our daily lives. The “light” that Jesus refers to isn’t our own brilliance; it is His presence shining through our obedience. When we steward well what we’ve been given, God promises to increase it (Luke 8:18). Our influence grows not through striving or force, but through a faithful and consistent witness rooted in grace. As we step out in faith, our light guides others toward hope and truth. Don’t hide your light today—let it shine freely. The world needs the Jesus in you.
