“Where two or three gather in My name,
I am there among them.”
– Matthew 18:20 –
Two bricklayers argue over how to fix a crumbling wall—each sure their way is better. The foreman listens quietly, then simply says, “Lay one brick together first.” Reluctantly, they do. As their hands move in sync, the brick settles firm. One brick becomes two, then a row. By sunset, the wall stands tall—and so does their friendship.
Like the two bricklayers who laid one brick together and watched the wall take shape, unity in faith builds what division cannot. Jesus said, “If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done…” (Matt18:19). It’s not about shouting louder or convincing God—it’s about hearts aligning with Him and with one another. When we set aside pride and come together, God steps in. Just like the foreman who responds to teamwork, heaven releases grace when believers agree in prayer. You don’t need a crowd—just one willing heart beside yours. Where two agree, walls are restored, hearts are healed, and Christ is present. Take the first step. Lay that first brick in faith and unity—heaven is ready to meet you there.
Then watch the walls start to straighten.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
Spend a few minutes journaling about a relationship, ministry, or community where division has taken root. Reflect on Matthew 18:19–20 and write down what “laying the first brick together” might look like for you. Meditate on the ways God responds when His people unite in prayer and purpose. Consider sharing this message with a friend or small group, then pray together over a specific situation in need of healing. Commit to one practical step of unity this week—whether it’s making a call, offering forgiveness, or initiating a joint act of service—and trust that Christ will be present in that moment.
Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, You promised that where two or three gather in Your name, You are there among them. Teach us to lay aside pride and choose unity. Help our hearts to align with Yours and with one another. May every prayer we agree upon be rooted in love, faith, and surrender to Your will. Build what division has broken, and let Your presence be the mortar that holds us together. Amen.
