He Meets Us in the Waiting Room

“I have seen the Lord”
John 20:18

In the hospital corridor, a woman waits after receiving devastating news. Her sorrow makes her unable to breathe. A doctor arrives with updated scans—there has been a mistake. The illness is gone. Slowly, her eyes widen.
“What did you say?” she asks through tears. “It’s gone,” the doctor repeats. In one moment, her despair transforms into stunned joy. The heaviness lifts—not because she forced it, but because something real changed.

Like the woman in the hospital corridor who went from despair to joy in a heartbeat, Mary Magdalene stood weeping outside the tomb—broken by grief, unsure of what came next. But then, Jesus called her by name. In that sacred moment, everything shifted. “I have seen the Lord,” she declared (John 20:18). What began as sorrow turned into the first witness of resurrection. God still meets us in our waiting rooms—places heavy with fear or unanswered prayers. Hold on through the tears—resurrection always finds those who remain at the tomb.
Today, look again. He may already be standing beside you.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

Take time today to journal about a personal “waiting room” moment—a time you felt uncertain, afraid, or grieving. Meditate on John 20:18 and invite Jesus into that memory. Read it slowly, picturing Mary’s moment of recognition. Then, share this reflection with a friend or small group, or use it as a prompt for deeper discussion on how God shows up in unexpected places. End by praying for someone currently in a season of waiting—let your prayer be a quiet act of faith that resurrection is already at work.

Join Us in Prayer

Lord Jesus,
You meet us in the waiting, in the sorrow, in the moments we think hope has died. Just as You called Mary by name, call us anew today. Open our eyes to see You standing beside us. Transform our grief into joy, and our fear into faith. May our own encounters with You become testimonies of resurrection for those still searching.
Amen.
