“Young man, I say to you, arise.” – Luke 7:14
A once-busy bakery has sat closed for a year. The elderly owner hasn’t returned since losing his only child. One morning, he finds a note under the door: “You taught me to bake. Your kindness kept me going.” It’s from a former apprentice. That afternoon, the lights flicker on. What had stopped… begins to breathe again.
In Luke 7:14, Jesus interrupts a funeral with a word that breaks through grief: “Young man, I say to you, arise.” It’s more than a miracle—it’s mercy in motion. He doesn’t just raise the boy; He restores the mother’s hope, dignity, and future. God still moves like this today. Grief has a way of silencing life. Like the baker who closed his shop after losing his son, we too shut doors within us—quieting dreams, closing rooms where laughter used to echo. But even in our quietest places, God slips in, sometimes through the smallest gesture, and breathes life again. His mercy doesn’t erase pain—but it refuses to let sorrow be the final word. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). God still revives what looks finished. Don’t mistake delay for death. His mercy is closer than you think.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Journal about areas in your life that feel “shut down” or silenced by grief or disappointment.
- Meditate on Luke 7:14 and Psalm 30:5, asking the Spirit to speak hope into those places.
- Share a word of encouragement or small act of kindness with someone who may need fresh hope.
- In group discussion, talk about ways God has revived dreams or faith when things seemed lost.
