“Trade till I come.” – Luke 19:13
A young musician received an old violin from his uncle but hid it, afraid of breaking it. Secretly, his younger brother took it outdoors to practise each day. Over time, the music drew a small crowd of neighbours. When the uncle returned, he saw the gathering and beamed with joy—his gift had been used to spread beauty and life.
In this parable (Luke 19:11-13), Jesus describes our present life as a period of active waiting and investment. The “pounds” represent everything God entrusts to us: our time, talents, faith, and opportunities to share love and goodness. The master’s command, “Trade till I come,” calls us to active, fruitful stewardship, not passive preservation. Like the violin in the hands of the younger brother, our gifts grow only when risked, practised, and shared with others. The fearful servant hid his gift, misunderstanding God’s generous heart, while faithful hearts embrace the chance to multiply what they’ve been given. Our faithful use of even small abilities prepares us for the joy of seeing lives touched and hearts lifted. Don’t keep your gifts hidden—use them boldly today, and watch grace multiply them.
