From Ashes to Growth: John 16:21 Hope

“‘She has sorrow… but when her baby is born, she no longer remembers the anguish.’-John 16:21 –

After a wildfire destroyed their neighborhood, residents stood among the ashes of their destroyed gardens. Then a child pointed—tiny green plants were already pushing up through the blackened soil! The fire had done something amazing; it awakened seeds long asleep. What looked like the end was the start of new life.

Jesus said childbirth pain turns to joy when the baby arrives (John 16:21). Paul kept preaching in Corinth despite threats because God said, “I am with you” (Acts 18:9-10). Both show this truth: God uses hard times to prepare something new. Like the wildfire that awakens hidden seeds, your struggle has purpose. Like a seed that must break open to grow (John 12:24), what feels like the end may be God’s way of beginning something better. Hold on—your fire is fertilizing new growth.

Heavenly Father, thank You for turning my sorrow into joy, as promised in John 16:21. Like the wildfire that awakens seeds, use my struggles for a purpose, as You did for Paul in Acts 18:9-10. Help me see that my pain is fertilizing new growth, and give me strength to hold on. Transform what feels like an end into a better beginning, in Your perfect timing. Amen.
