Freely Given, Freely Shared

“Freely you have received,
freely give.” – Matthew 10:8

A gardener noticed her neighbour struggling with a wilting garden. She offered some extra seedlings and a few tools, gently showing how to plant them. Weeks later, that same neighbour shared her fresh harvest with a family down the street. A simple act of kindness had quietly taken root, growing far beyond the gardener’s first small gesture.

Jesus commissions His disciples with a revolutionary principle in Matthew 10:8: “Freely you have received, freely give.” Just as the gardener shared her extra seedlings, the disciples were entrusted with gifts of healing and authority they did not earn (Matthew 10:1). These were not for hoarding but for sowing into the spiritual harvest, which Jesus said was “plentiful” (Matthew 9:37). Our faith, mercy, and compassion are like those seedlings. When we give them away without expecting a return, they take root in others’ lives and produce a yield that extends beyond our sight. We are called not just to admire the grace we’ve received but to actively plant it in the lives of the “lost sheep” around us (Matthew 10:6). Look for a wilting heart or a struggling spirit today. Freely share what Christ has freely given you, and watch His kingdom grow.
