“We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:2
On a winter night, a long-haul truck driver follows highway reflectors through thick fog. He cannot see the destination, only the next marker glowing ahead. Trusting those small lights, he keeps moving forward mile by mile. Eventually the fog thins, the road clears, and the journey makes sense because he kept following the light given.
The Epiphany reveals that Christ’s light is for all people. The Magi, guided by a star, fulfilled Isaiah’s promise that “nations shall come to your light” (Isaiah 60:3). This was the divine “mystery” once hidden: people from every nation are welcomed as “fellow heirs” in God’s family (Ephesians 3:6). Like the driver trusting reflectors in fog, their journey challenges us to follow God’s light step by step, even when the final destination is unseen. It leads away from worldly power and calls us to offer our most precious gifts to Christ alone. This season, seek the Magi’s courage. Let God’s light—in scripture, prayer, and community—lead you to genuine worship of Jesus. Then, filled with “exceedingly great joy,” share the good news that God’s saving love is a gift for every heart that seeks Him.
