Even the Crumbs

“YES, LORD; YET EVEN THE DOGS UNDER THE TABLE EAT THE CHILDREN’S CRUMBS.” – MARK 7:28

At a busy public library, only cardholders are allowed to use the computers. An elderly immigrant woman needs someone to fill out a medication form for her husband, but doesn’t have a card. She waits quietly and politely asks a staff member for five minutes during a test login. Touched, he gives her an hour. Her respectful request moves him to offer her a full hour.

Like the immigrant woman who accepted her limitations yet persisted in hope, the Syrophoenician woman teaches us that faith flourishes in humility. She does not deny her place outside the covenant; she simply trusts that God’s mercy spills beyond expected borders. Her daughter is healed instantly. This contrasts painfully with Solomon, whose heart, once filled with God-given wisdom, was gradually divided by compromise and idolatry (1 Kings 11:4). He who had full access to the Lord’s table allowed foreign influences to turn his heart away. Today, come to Jesus with this woman’s holy audacity. Do not let pride, past failure, or a sense of exclusion keep you from His mercy. Humbly welcome the word planted in you (James 1:21). His grace never runs out, and even the smallest portion carries full healing power.
