Embracing the Cross

“The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” – Luke 9:44

At a company awards banquet, a young employee is called to the stage for outstanding performance. Applause erupts. But instead of basking in praise, he steps up and says, “What you didn’t see were the late nights, the failed attempts, and the moments I nearly quit.” The room quiets.

The crowds were amazed by Jesus’ miracles, but He told His disciples a sobering truth: “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” While His glory was on display, the suffering that would ultimately bring redemption remained concealed, leaving the disciples too afraid to inquire further. We often find joy in God’s power and blessings, yet struggle to embrace the cross that underlies it all. It is through the cross that Christ extends His offer of salvation. Jesus invites us not just to admire His divine power but to trust Him amid the mystery of suffering. Even when His plan eludes our understanding, He calls us to walk alongside Him in faith. Through suffering love, Christ’s glory shines even brighter, revealing the depth of His redemptive purpose.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

  • Journal moments where God’s blessings were clear, and times when suffering tested your trust.
  • Meditate on Luke 9:44, asking God to help you embrace both His glory and His cross.
  • Share your story of finding God in suffering with a trusted friend or small group.
  • Engage in group discussion: What does it mean to walk with Christ even when His plan isn’t clear?

Join Us in Prayer

Lord Jesus, teach me to trust You not only in moments of joy but also in times of trial. Help me embrace the cross, knowing it is through Your suffering love that salvation shines forth. Strengthen my faith to walk with You always. Amen.
