“First take the log out of your own eye.” – Luke 6:42
A young woman volunteers to clean her church windows. From inside, she notices smudges and fingerprints and scrubs harder, convinced the glass is stained. But when she steps outside, she suddenly realises the grime was on her side all along. Embarrassed, she laughs at herself and starts again—this time with a clearer view.
Jesus asks a piercing question: “How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the log in your own?” (Luke 6:42). His challenge isn’t just about judgement—it’s about vision. Like the young woman who only saw the grime on the window after stepping outside, we often notice flaws in others more easily than we face our own. But Christ, our Master (Luke 6:40), leads with humility, not condemnation—and He calls us to the same. True discipleship means letting Him reveal the “beam” in our hearts: pride, resentment, or spiritual blindness. Grace begins its work from the inside out. Before we rush to fix others, we must first kneel before the One who sees clearly. Let Christ cleanse your vision—so you can love without comparison and see with compassion.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Take 10 minutes to journal moments when you’ve judged others quickly without self-reflection.
- Meditate on Luke 6:42, asking God to show you areas where you need His cleansing.
- Share your reflections with a trusted friend or group for accountability.
- Pray daily this week for the grace to see others with compassion instead of comparison.
Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to my own heart before I try to correct others. Remove every pride, bitterness, and blindness that clouds my vision. Cleanse me so I may reflect Your humility, grace, and compassion in all I do. Amen.
