“HE HAS DONE ALL THINGS WELL. HE EVEN MAKES THE DEAF HEAR.” – MARK 7:37
A technician repairs a phone that hasn’t produced sound for weeks. Calls came through, but the speaker was clogged with dust. Carefully, he cleans the tiny openings and tests it. Suddenly, voices are clear again. The phone was never disconnected from the network; it simply couldn’t receive what was already being sent.
Jesus takes the deaf man aside and speaks a single word: “Ephphatha—Be opened” (Mark 7:34). Like the phone whose speaker was blocked, the man was not cut off from life; something prevented him from receiving and responding. Psalm 81 reveals a deeper deafness—“My people did not listen to my voice.” When hearts close, division follows, as Israel’s kingdom was torn apart (1 Kings 11–12). God’s desire is not fragmentation, but communion. Christ still touches what is obstructed within us—ears dulled by pride, tongues restrained by fear. He does not shout from a distance; He draws near and restores connection. Today, ask Him to open what has quietly closed in your heart. Listen for His voice. Let Him clear what blocks love and truth. When He opens us, we begin to hear clearly and speak rightly again.
