“‘Abide in my love, that your joy may be full.’”-John 15:11
A grandmother teaches her granddaughter how to bake bread. They stand side by side, kneading the dough together. “It’s not just about the recipe,” she says. “You have to stay close to the dough, the oven, and me. That’s how it turns out right.” Later, the warm bread fills the room with a sweet smell, and both smile with joy.
When Jesus says, “Abide in my love,” He means: stay close to Him. Just as the granddaughter stayed near her grandma to learn, we grow best when we remain near to Jesus—through prayer, trust, and obedience to His word. Then our souls rise like well-tended dough—a joy which doesn’t depend on circumstances but overflows from His presence. For as Jesus reminds us: “Apart from me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Yet abiding in Him, “your joy may be complete” (John 15:11). Be close to Him today; He is already walking beside you through all things.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
Reflect on a time when staying close to someone brought you joy, and journal how that mirrors abiding in Jesus. Meditate on John 15:9, 11, and 15:5, letting His promise of joy guide your day. Share this message with a loved one to spread His love, or discuss with a group how prayer and obedience deepen your connection with Christ.
Join Us in Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the love of Jesus, in whom I abide. Teach me to stay close to Him through prayer, trust, and obedience, as a granddaughter learns from her grandma. Let my soul rise with joy that overflows from His presence, not my circumstances. Help me remember that apart from Him, I can do nothing, but with Him, my joy is complete. Walk beside me today, Lord. Amen.
