A Great Light in the Darkness

“The people living in darkness have seen a great light.” – Matthew 4:16

During a citywide blackout, a small café stayed open with a single generator. Its warm lights drew weary commuters inside. Strangers shared tables, phones charged, and conversations softened. No one fixed the grid that night, but that one lit room offered direction, rest, and enough hope to keep people moving until morning returned, quietly and steadily.

Like the café that offers a haven of light and hope in a citywide blackout, Christ’s coming is a compassionate beacon in our pervasive darkness. He does not instantly fix every shadow in the world, but His presence offers immediate direction, rest, and the hope needed to keep moving. This light gathers a community, as strangers become companions. Yet as Paul warns, we must not form cliques in this light, saying “I belong to Paul” (1 Cor 1:12), thus recreating shadows of division. The true response is to follow Him, as the disciples did, and become part of His unifying mission. Today, draw near to Christ’s light. Let it restore your soul and connect you to others. Then go forth as part of His community, offering His steady hope to those still waiting in the dark.
