The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11

A lifeguard watches a swimmer caught in a rip current. The water is rough, the risk high. Others hesitate, but one dives in without delay. He fights the waves and reaches the struggling man. Later, when asked why he risked everything, he simply says, “That’s what a lifeguard does. You don’t calculate. You go.”

Jesus contrasts Himself with the hired hand who runs when danger comes (John 10:12). The Good Shepherd does not flee—He chooses to lay down His life. Like the lifeguard who dives in without calculating the cost, Christ moves toward us in our deepest need. The Shepherd’s mission reaches beyond boundaries, gathering all into one flock. This is not reluctant love, but deliberate self-giving. Christ does not measure His life against ours; He gives it freely. Today, you may feel unseen or uncertain, like a sheep without direction. But you are known. He does not run from your brokenness—He enters it. Stay close to Him. Rest in the truth that His love remains, even when everything else feels uncertain.
