“… HAVE WASHED YOUR FEET, YOU ALSO OUGHT TO WASH ONE ANOTHER’S FEET.” – JOHN 13:14
After a long, exhausting shift, a surgeon sees a young nurse crying because she lost her first patient. He sits with her quietly. When she worries he thinks she’s weak, he tells her he still cries over his first patient—even after twenty years—and they sit together in silence.
Jesus knows his hour has come. He knows Judas will betray him, and Peter will deny him. And he rises from the table, wraps a towel around his waist, and washes their feet. The dirtiest job. The lowest place. The Master becomes a servant. Peter resists: “You will never wash my feet.” But Jesus insists: unless he washes Peter, Peter has no part with him. This is not about hygiene. It is about receiving love we cannot earn. Like the surgeon who sat in weakness with a grieving nurse, Jesus meets us not in glory but in the messy, humble, ordinary places. Paul recalls the night Jesus took the bread and said, “This is my body,” took the cup and said, “This is my blood.” The new commandment: love as I have loved you. Tonight, whose feet are you avoiding? The towel is in your hands. Love gets low.

Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, You showed us the depth of love through humble service. Teach us to lay aside pride, to serve others with compassion, and to love as You have loved us. Give us hearts willing to go low so that others may experience Your grace. Amen.
