“BEHOLD, I AM THE SERVANT OF THE LORD; LET IT BE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.” – LUKE 1:38
A woman in her sixties receives a letter: she’s been named guardian of her late nephew’s orphaned child. She hasn’t raised a child in decades. It seems impossible. Yet she looks at the child’s photo and says, “When can she arrive?” She doesn’t know how—only that her answer is yes.
The angel comes to a young woman in Nazareth with news that changes everything: she will bear the Son of the Most High. Mary doesn’t refuse—she wonders, “How can this be?” Gabriel replies: nothing is impossible with God. And Mary says yes—not to a plan she understands, but to a God she trusts. Isaiah foretold it: a virgin shall conceive, Emmanuel—God with us. Though Achaz refused a sign, God gave one anyway. The Psalmist echoes the right response: “Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.” Mary’s yes still echoes. What is God asking of you today? A forgiveness you can’t give, a step you can’t see, a burden you can’t carry alone. You don’t need to understand how—only to say: Let it be done to me according to your word.
