“WHOEVER EXALTS HIMSELF WILL BE HUMBLED, AND WHOEVER HUMBLES HIMSELF WILL BE EXALTED.” – MATTHEW 23:12
A senior manager gives long speeches about teamwork but never helps when the office is under pressure. Staff quietly notice the gap between his words and actions. Later, a new leader arrives who works alongside everyone. She says little, but serves much. Respect follows her naturally.
Through Isaiah, God calls His people to wash and make themselves clean, to stop doing wrong and learn to do right (Isaiah 1:16–17). He is not impressed by outward religion without changed behaviour. Psalm 50 warns against honouring God with words while ignoring His instruction. In the Gospel, Jesus exposes the same problem. The Pharisees teach correctly, but do not practise what they preach. They seek status, not service. True greatness, Jesus says, is found in humility. Lent invites honest self-examination. Do our actions match our prayers? Do we serve quietly or seek recognition? God promises that sins as scarlet can become white as snow when we are willing to listen (Isaiah 1:18–19). Today, choose integrity over appearance. Walk humbly. Serve sincerely. That is the path God honours.

Lord, guard me from seeking praise more than faithfulness. Cleanse my heart and align my actions with my prayers. Teach me to walk humbly and serve sincerely, as Christ did. Amen.
