“LOVE YOUR ENEMIES… THAT YOU MAY BE THE CHILDREN OF YOUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN.” – MATTHEW 5:44–45
Two colleagues compete for the same promotion. One spreads quiet rumours to gain an advantage. The other hears about it and feels hurt and angry. Instead of retaliating, he continues to treat his colleague with respect and even helps him finish a project on time. It is not a weakness. It is a choice. He refuses to let resentment shape his character.
Jesus calls us beyond ordinary love. Loving friends is natural. Loving enemies is divine (Matthew 5:44). God allows the sun to rise on both the good and the bad. His goodness is not selective. In Deuteronomy, Israel is reminded that they are chosen to be a holy people, faithful with all their heart and soul (Deuteronomy 26:16–19). Holiness is not only about prayer and commandments; it is about reflecting the Father’s heart. Psalm 119 reminds us that blessing comes from walking in the Lord’s way. Today’s Gospel challenges us directly. Who do you struggle to forgive? Who do you avoid or resent? Ask God for the strength to respond differently. Love does not mean approving wrong, but it means refusing hatred. This is the path to becoming more like the Father—patient, steady, and merciful.
