“I HAVE COMPASSION ON THE MULTITUDE.” – MARK 8:2
A small-town baker, known for his generosity, sees a line of weary travelers stranded after a bus cancellation. With little money and no open cafés nearby, they face the night hungry. Without waiting to be asked, he gathers day-old bread, slices leftover cake, and pours warm milk. “It’s not a feast,” he says, “but no one should travel hungry.” His simple kindness becomes quiet abundance, and everyone eats.
Like the baker who sees need before it is spoken, Jesus’s compassion is proactive, practical, and abundant. He notices the crowd has been with Him three days, knows they are far from home, and acts. This contrasts sharply with Jeroboam, who sought his own security and made golden calves to keep Israel from Jerusalem (1 Kings 12:26–28). His counterfeit worship left the people hungry for true bread. Christ, the true King, does not manipulate but feeds. With seven loaves and a few fish, He satisfies four thousand, with leftovers. Today, you are invited to receive and reflect this compassion. Jesus sees your hunger—physical, spiritual, or emotional—and provides. Do not settle for the world’s empty substitutes. Trust that His word sustains (Matt 4:4). Then become His hands: noticing needs, sharing what you have, and trusting His multiplication.
