“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed.” – Mark 4:26
A watchmaker repairs an old clock by replacing a tiny internal spring. Once closed, the clock looks unchanged. Days pass with no attention. Inside, the spring slowly regulates the gears, restoring a steady rhythm. Only after time passes do people notice the difference: the clock keeps perfect time again, without anyone watching it work patiently and quietly.
Jesus compares God’s kingdom to a seed that grows while the farmer sleeps, reminding us that real transformation is often hidden (Mark 4:26–28). Like the repaired clock, God’s work continues quietly beneath the surface, restoring order we cannot control. David’s story warns how unchecked actions in secret can also grow destructively (2 Samuel 11:1–17). Scripture shows that what develops unseen will eventually be revealed in fruit. The mustard seed further assures us that small, faithful beginnings can become places of shelter and blessing (Mark 4:30–32). Our role is not to force outcomes, but to plant obedience, repent quickly, and remain attentive to God’s ways. Growth belongs to God alone. Today, consider what is forming beneath the surface of your life. Choose faithfulness in small things, trust God’s timing, and wait with hope. In due season, His work will be clearly seen.
