“Come after me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” – Mark 1:17
A talented musician often performs at neighbourhood gatherings. One night, a renowned conductor hears her and offers a prized place in a touring orchestra. It demands leaving her home and a steady routine for constant travel. She sees no clear itinerary, only the conductor’s reputation. After a long silence, she shuts her case, prepared to depart.
Like the musician placing her future in the conductor’s vision, the disciples’ immediate response to Jesus’ call was a bold act of trust in Him, not a strategy. They left their familiar world—their nets, work, and family identities—for the simple yet powerful promise to be reshaped for God’s purpose. The Gospel shows that Christ’s authority (“I will make you become…”) is the true source of security, greater than any stability we surrender. This call still comes today, asking us to repent—to change direction—and believe the Good News (Mark 1:15). Today, Christ invites you to follow Him more deeply. What familiar security is He asking you to let go of? Trust that His promise to form your life for His kingdom is the only plan you need. Follow with courage; He is leading you to your true vocation.
