“She… spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption.” – Luke 2:38
For decades, a quiet librarian watched students come and go, always ready with the right book. One day, a discouraged young researcher arrived, lost and unsure. With a knowing smile, she placed a single, long-forgotten volume in his hands—it held exactly what he needed. She hadn’t written the book; her life’s work was guiding others to its truth.
Anna’s lifelong vigil (Luke 2:36–38) shows how faithful prayer and steady presence prepare us to recognise and proclaim Christ. Like the librarian in the analogy, her role was not to be the source, but the witness who points to the Source. This contrasts with the “world” John warns against—the pride of life and the concupiscence of the eyes (1 John 2:16-17) that distract us. Anna’s focus enabled her to recognise God’s salvation in an infant and to share that hope immediately. Her life challenges us: are we so anchored in God’s will that we can point others to Him with quiet confidence? True fulfilment comes not from what passes away, but from abiding in Him. Embrace your calling as a witness. Through prayer and a heart detached from worldly clamour, you will see Christ and speak of Him with joy.
