Building a Holy Home

“He rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt.” – Matthew 2:14

A young family had just finished setting up their nursery when the father, a military officer, received sudden orders for an overseas transfer. Within days, they packed their essentials, secured their newborn in a car seat, and began the long journey to an unfamiliar country, trusting that their unity and love would be their true home anywhere.

The Holy Family’s flight into Egypt demonstrates that faith is often lived in disruption rather than comfort. Like the military family relocating on short notice, Joseph acted immediately in response to God’s message to protect Jesus and Mary. This obedience amid danger reveals a home centred on trust in God’s guidance rather than earthly security. Sirach teaches that honouring family is like storing up treasure, and Paul calls us to “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Col 3:12). The first family modelled this: their love was expressed through sacrifice, listening, and courageous action. Their story reminds us that God’s presence transforms any household—whether facing crisis or daily routine—into a holy space where His peace can dwell. Let their journey inspire your family to listen for God’s guidance and to protect one another with selfless love.
