The Rising Sun on Christmas Eve

“For he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.” – Luke 1:48

A neighbourhood had been without power for days. Without the utility truck finally arrived, families gathered outside, watching as the crew worked by flashlight and candlelight. After hours of waiting, the main transformer was restored. In one sudden moment, streetlights flared, homes glowed, and cheers

Zechariah’s prophecy sings of the end of a long spiritual darkness. Like the neighbors gathered in hopeful expectation for the light to be restored, God’s people waited through centuries for His promise. That promise breaks through not as a slow fade, but as a decisive event: “the rising sun” visits His people. This child, Jesus, fulfills the ancient covenant with David for an everlasting kingdom (2 Samuel 7:16), but He brings more than political hope. He is the light switch for the soul, illuminating hearts that have sat in the shadow of sin and death. On this Christmas Eve, we stand in the moment before the lights come on. The long wait is ending. Prepare your heart for the sudden, glorious dawn of grace that scatters every darkness and guides our feet into the way of peace.
