“Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them….” – Matthew 7:24
During a heavy storm, a delivery rider parked under two nearby shelters. One was a brightly painted structure with loose metal roofing; the other was a plain concrete canopy. When the wind picked up, the colourful shelter rattled apart, forcing him to move. The plain one held steady, reminding him that true security comes from strength, not appearance.
Like the rider who had to choose a reliable shelter, we must choose the foundation for our lives. Jesus warns that calling Him “Lord” or appreciating His teachings is not enough. True security is found only in putting His words into practice. The storms of life—crisis, doubt, loss—will test our foundation. The “concrete canopy” of obedient faith, built on Christ Himself, will hold. The “colorful shelter” of superficial belief, emotional highs, or cultural religion will collapse. This requires daily, intentional choice. Are you building your life on the shifting sand of your own understanding and feelings, or on the solid rock of following Jesus? Examine your foundation now. Choose to not just hear, but to do. For only a life built on obedience to Christ can withstand the storm

A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Spend 5 minutes journaling: What is my current foundation—feelings, culture, or Christ?
- Meditate on Matthew 7:24–25 slowly, asking God to reveal areas needing obedience.
- Share one insight with a friend or family member and discuss what “building on the rock” looks like.
- This week, intentionally act on one teaching of Jesus rather than just thinking about it.
- In group or fellowship, discuss times when storms revealed one’s true foundation.
