“…that you have hidden these things
from the wise…” – Luke 10:21
An elderly farmer, who had worked the same land all his life, could predict the weather by subtle signs—the behavior of birds, the smell of the air, the way leaves turned. Scientists with advanced equipment often reached the same conclusions, but the farmer’s wisdom came from a lifelong, humble bond with the land.
In a moment of profound joy, Jesus reveals that God’s kingdom is perceived not through intellect but through humble receptivity. The “wise and learned” often rely on their own understanding, creating barriers to God’s simple, wondrous truths. In contrast, the “little children”—those who approach with trust and dependence—receive divine revelation. This reflects Isaiah 11, where the Messiah is filled with the Spirit of wisdom and understanding—a wisdom beyond human logic. We are called to a childlike posture, not of ignorance, but of active trust. By emptying ourselves of self-sufficiency, we are filled with God’s knowledge. The greatest mysteries of the Kingdom are not for the brilliant, but for the humble. Open your heart in simple trust today, and behold what prophets longed to see.
