Lift Up Your Head

“Look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” – Luke 21:28

A man sat in an airport during a long flight delay, watching the departure board flip endlessly between updates. People grew restless, some already assuming the worst. But when the loudspeaker finally announced his flight was boarding, relief washed over the room. The uncertainty hadn’t changed the destination—only the waiting.

Jesus’ description of global turmoil can feel like a spiritual “flight delay”—a period of anxious uncertainty where God’s promises seem to be on hold. But His command to “look up” is the divine announcement that our redemption is boarding. The chaos in the world does not change our ultimate destination; it simply refines our longing for it. Like Daniel in the lions’ den, our present circumstances—however frightening—are not the final word. God’s timetable is sure, and His kingdom is the destination. The signs that cause others to panic are, for the believer, the very proof that our journey home is imminent. So when you see the “departure board” of history flashing with troubling news, do not despair. Lift up your head. Your King is on His way. The wait is almost over, and your arrival in His eternal kingdom is guaranteed.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

  • Journal moments when global or personal uncertainty has led to fear, and how Scripture redirected your focus to hope.
  • Meditate on Luke 21:28 and Revelation 22:12, reflecting on Christ’s promised return.
  • Share with someone how the hope of redemption sustains you during confusing or chaotic news.
  • In your faith group or fellowship, discuss how believers can encourage one another to “lift up their heads” with hope rather than fear.
