“Today you will be with me in paradise.” – Luke 23:43
A celebrated chef was hosting an exclusive dinner. A weary janitor, cleaning the kitchen after long hours, sighed, “I wish I could taste food like that just once.” The chef paused, prepared a perfect plate, and set a place for them both at the gleaming counter, saying, “You don’t need to wish. We’ll enjoy it together, right now.”
Like the chef who welcomed the weary janitor to his table, Jesus offers an immediate and unearned invitation to paradise. On the cross, the repentant thief recognises Christ’s kingship not through power, but through sacrificial love. While others mock and demand proof, this broken man simply asks to be remembered. Jesus answers not with distant promises but with intimate presence: “Today you will be with me.” This moment overturns every idea of merit, showing that salvation is not a reward we achieve but a relationship we receive through trust. Our King meets us in suffering and shame, offering Himself without hesitation. No one is too far gone or has waited too long for this grace. In your own moment of need—desperate or ordinary—turn to Him. He is ready to welcome you into His kingdom today.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Sit quietly with Luke 23:39–43, reading it slowly and noticing Jesus’ tenderness toward the repentant thief.
- Journal what “Today you will be with me” means for your own walk—right now, not later.
- Reflect on any area where you feel unworthy, ashamed, or delayed, and invite Christ’s nearness into that place.
- Share the message of immediate grace with someone who feels far from God.
- Discuss in a group or with a friend how salvation as relationship—not achievement—changes daily life.
- End with a short moment of thanksgiving, receiving His welcome with open hands.
Join Us in Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for meeting us in our weakness, our waiting, and our weariness. Draw near to us today with the same compassion You showed on the cross. Help us trust Your mercy more than our mistakes and welcome Your presence into every place we feel unworthy. Amen.
