Lord, That I May See

“Lord, that I may see.” – Luke 18:41

A musician who had lost his passion for music sat silently at his piano for years. One day, overwhelmed by the memory of the joy it once brought, he finally whispered, “I want to hear the music again.” That simple, honest admission was the first step toward finding a teacher, practicing again, and rediscovering the beauty he thought was lost forever.

Like the musician’s whispered hope, the blind man’s plea—”Lord, that I may see”—is the fundamental prayer God yearns to hear. His physical blindness mirrors our spiritual condition, where we stumble in confusion, sin, and worldly distraction. When the crowd tells him to be silent, his persistent cries model a faith that refuses to be quieted. Jesus stops for this raw desperation, revealing God is drawn not to eloquence, but to honest need. This request opens us to Christ, the “light of the world.” His healing is never just for us; like the man who immediately followed and glorified God, our restored vision compels us to walk with Him and becomes a testimony that leads others to praise. What lies in shadow in your life? Name it before Him. Do not be silenced, for He stands ready to answer, “Receive your sight,” and restore your song.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

  • Journal the areas of your life where you feel spiritually “dim” or unclear; write them as honest prayers before God.
  • Meditate slowly on Luke 18:35–43, inviting Jesus to shine His light on anything hidden or heavy within you.
  • Share a testimony of a moment when Christ brought clarity or healing to your life.
  • In group discussion, explore how persistent, honest prayer opens us to greater spiritual sight.
  • Practise a daily moment of silence before God, simply whispering, “Lord, that I may see.”

Join Us in Prayer

Lord Jesus, Light of the world, open our eyes to see clearly again. Reveal what lies in shadow, restore what has grown dim, and awaken in us the vision to walk with You. Heal our hearts, renew our song, and draw us closer to Your light. Amen.
