God’s Living Temple

“You are God’s temple, and God’s Spirit dwells in you.” – 1 Corinthians 3:16

A man bought an old house with peeling paint and creaking floors. He planned to live there briefly, but as he repaired each corner, he discovered its beauty. What once felt ordinary began to glow with warmth and meaning. By the time he finished, he realised the house had changed him too—it had become his home, not just his shelter.

The Church is not merely brick and mortar, but a living body. This truth finds its foundation in the Gospel, where Jesus redirects our gaze from the temple of Jerusalem to the temple of His own body—a temple raised in three days through His resurrection. Now, through the Holy Spirit, that same divine presence dwells within us. We are God’s building, as Paul affirms, with Christ as our cornerstone. Like the man restoring his house, God patiently repairs our souls, transforming us from simple shelters into sacred dwellings. This holy identity calls for reverence—toward our bodies, one another, and our shared life in Christ. You are God’s chosen sanctuary. Let your life radiate this truth, honouring the divine image in every person—for together, we are living stones in His eternal temple.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

  1. Journal Prompt: Reflect on how God’s Spirit is at work “renovating” your heart. What part of your inner life needs His restoration today?
  2. Scripture Meditation: Read 1 Corinthians 3:9–17. Meditate on what it means to be God’s temple and how this changes the way you live.
  3. Sharing Moment: Discuss with a friend or group how we can honour the sacred presence of God in ourselves and others.
  4. Prayerful Reflection: Invite the Holy Spirit to rebuild areas of neglect in your life—restoring love, peace, and holiness.
  5. Faith in Action: Show reverence to God’s dwelling by caring for your body, encouraging others, and cultivating unity within Christ’s body, the Church.
