How often would I have gathered your children together” – Luke 13:34
A firefighter rushed into a collapsing building for the third time to save a trapped child. Flames roared, smoke thickened, and colleagues shouted, “It’s too dangerous!” But he pressed on. Moments later, he emerged coughing, holding the child close. Burns on his hands couldn’t dim the steady relief in his eyes. Love had made retreat impossible.
Jesus’ lament over Jerusalem reveals the tender persistence of divine love. Like the firefighter who braved danger again and again, Christ continues to reach for hearts that resist Him. He doesn’t give up—even when we turn away. In His words, “How often would I have gathered your children,” we hear the ache of God’s compassion: relentless, protective, and patient. From the cross to every quiet call of grace, He seeks to draw us under His wings. St Paul echoes this truth: “Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:39). That love is not defeated by rejection—it waits, it calls, it endures. This is the unshakeable foundation of our hope. Let no guilt convince you that you’ve gone too far. His love still reaches for you—again and again.
