A struggling bakery owner is ready to close shop after months of slow sales. As she clears the counter, her grandmother urges, “Make one more batch of the old bread pudding.” She sighs, “No one buys it anymore.” Still, she bakes. That afternoon, a food blogger walks in, takes a photo—and by sunset, her phone won’t stop ringing with orders.
Peter had fished all night with nothing to show for it. He was exhausted, discouraged, and ready to pack up. But when Jesus said, “Let down your nets,” he didn’t argue—he obeyed. And the miracle came after the effort, not before. Like the baker who made one last batch without knowing what was coming, we’re often asked to trust God’s word when everything else says, “Why bother?” But sometimes, heaven moves not because we push harder, but because we trust deeper. Her grandmother’s whisper—“Make one more batch”—was a gentle echo of Luke 5:5: “At your word I will let down the nets.” It’s not about how much strength we have left; it’s about whose voice we’re listening to.
One quiet yes might be the key to everything. Do it again, not because it makes sense, but because He said so.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Journal moments when you obeyed God’s Word despite discouragement.
- Meditate on Luke 5:5, asking what “nets” Jesus is calling you to lower again.
- Share the testimony of a time God showed up after an act of obedience.
- Discuss in a small group or with a friend: What does trusting God beyond reason look like in your life today?
Join Us in Prayer
Lord, when my strength is gone and hope feels thin, teach me to trust Your word above my feelings. Help me to say yes even when it seems pointless, knowing that You hold the outcome. Amen.
