“Many are called, but few are chosen.”- Matthew 22:14
A young man receives a royal invitation to a grand banquet. Excited, he comes—but in casual clothes, ignoring the formal attire provided. The host kindly offers him a chance to change, but he refuses: “I’m here, isn’t that enough?” Later, regret fills him as he watches the joy and music from outside. The invitation was free, but entry required readiness.
Jesus’ parable exposes a hard truth: God’s grace demands response. The wedding garment (v. 11) symbolises the righteousness of Christ—a gift we “wear” through repentance and active faith (Revelation 19:8). Like the young man, we might believe mere acknowledgment of God is enough, but Scripture warns against “cheap grace” (Luke 14:28-33). The king’s feast is open to all, yet those who disdain the cost of discipleship—surrender, obedience, transformation—exclude themselves. Today, Christ’s invitation still stands, but our casual compromises (lukewarm prayer, unrepentant sin, neglected mercy) risk leaving us outside the joy we were offered. Don’t just accept the invitation, prepare your heart. The King awaits.

A Journey of Reflection and Action
- Read and Reflect: Begin by reading the parable of the wedding banquet in Matthew 22:1-14. As you read, reflect on the young man’s attitude. Are there areas in your life where you might be approaching God with a similar “is this enough?” mindset?
- Journaling: Take out your journal and write about what “preparing your heart” means to you personally. How can you practically demonstrate repentance and active faith in your daily life?
- Scripture Meditation: Meditate on Revelation 19:8, which speaks of the fine linen symbolizing the righteous acts of the saints. Think about your own actions—do they reflect your faith? Consider memorizing this verse to remind yourself of the importance of living a life of active obedience.
- Group Discussion: Share your reflections with a trusted friend, small group, or family member. Discuss what “cheap grace” means and how you can encourage one another to live out a faith that is both genuine and transformative.
Join Us in Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the incredible, undeserved invitation to Your kingdom feast. Forgive us for the times we have approached You with a casual, unprepared heart, taking Your grace for granted. Help us to truly understand the cost of discipleship and to willingly surrender our lives to You. Clothe us in the righteousness of Christ, so that we may not only accept Your invitation but also be ready to enter into the fullness of Your joy. Strengthen us to live a life of active faith, obedience, and love, for Your glory. Amen.
