Leap of Faith: When Trust Overcomes Fear

“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
– Matthew 14:31 –

A child climbs the playground slide, unsure. Her father stands below, arms outstretched. “Jump, I’ve got you,” he says. She hesitates, heart pounding. Fear grips her—then, with a squeal and shut eyes, she jumps and lands safely in his arms. Her fear didn’t stop him from catching her. It only delayed the joy of the fall.

That little girl at the top of the slide mirrors us more than we admit. We hear God’s voice calling, “Jump—I’ve got you,” but we freeze, staring at the gap between what we know and what we fear. Peter did the same. He was already walking on water when the wind caught his attention—and doubt crept in (Matt 14:30–31). Yet Jesus didn’t let him sink. Like the father waiting at the slide, He caught him mid-fall. God doesn’t promise a life without fear—but He promises His presence within it: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you” (Isaiah 43:2). The fall isn’t failure—it’s faith in motion. The longer we delay, the more joy we postpone. So today, take the leap. Fix your eyes on Him, not the waves. His arms are still open.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

After reading this powerful reflection, take a moment to pause and engage with the message in your daily life. Begin by journaling a moment when fear delayed your faith, and write a prayer of trust to God. Meditate on Matthew 14:31 and Isaiah 43:2 throughout the week, perhaps even committing them to memory. Share this message with a friend or family member who may be facing doubt or fear. Discuss in a small group what “faith in motion” looks like and how to overcome spiritual hesitation. Each step you take, no matter how small, builds your trust in His arms—still outstretched, still faithful.

Join Us in Prayer

Heavenly Father,
When fear clouds our steps, remind us of Your voice—calling us to leap into Your arms. Strengthen our trust when we doubt. Like Peter on the water and the child on the slide, may we find courage in Your promise. Help us to fix our eyes on You and not on the waves around us. Catch us when we fall, and guide us into the joy waiting on the other side of fear. Amen.
