When Truth Costs You Everything

“It is not lawful for you to have her.”– Matthew 14:4 –

A young employee discovers his manager is falsifying financial reports. Though urged to stay quiet, he speaks up—knowing it could cost him his job. The manager is furious, but eventually confesses. Colleagues whisper, “Was it worth it?” The employee simply says, “Truth doesn’t bend.”

Like the employee who risks his job to expose corruption, John the Baptist refused to stay silent for a tyrant’s comfort. “It is not lawful” (Matt 14:4) wasn’t just a warning—it was a bold stand against moral compromise.

Today, your workplace, family, or friends may expect silence when injustice says, “Ignore this.” But Jesus says, “Blessed are those persecuted for righteousness” (Matt 5:10).

That employee’s courage sparked change; John’s death echoed into eternity. When the world rewards silence, remember: God honors those who choose integrity over safety. Truth doesn’t die—it waits for bold hearts to rise.
The world may silence prophets, but it fears their legacy.
Don’t fear the Herods—they fade. Truth stays.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

Spend time journaling about areas in your life where you’re tempted to remain silent in the face of wrongdoing. Reflect on what “Truth doesn’t bend” means for your own character. Meditate on Matthew 14:4 and Matthew 5:10 this week. Share this reflection with a trusted friend or small group and invite conversation around what it means to stand for righteousness in today’s world. Consider a moment from your past where you stayed silent—how might God be redeeming that now? Ask Him for boldness and clarity for your next right step.

Join Us in Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the Truth that never bends. When fear whispers and pressure mounts, anchor our hearts in Your righteousness. Give us the courage of John the Baptist and the quiet strength to speak when it’s costly. May our lives echo Your justice and love in every space we enter. Remind us that though the world may silence prophets, You uphold their legacy. Make us bold, not for applause, but for Your glory. Amen.
