God’s Call to the Unqualified

“He called His twelve disciples… and gave them authority… Then He sent them out.” — Matthew 10:1,5 —

A small-town football coach gathers his ragtag team—a mix of benchwarmers and second-string players. “You may not feel ready,” he says, “but I’m putting you in the game.” He hands each one a playbook, points to the field, and adds, “Just run the plays I taught you.” Their nervous glances turn to determination as they realize: He believes in us.

Jesus didn’t call the “qualified”—He called ordinary fishermen, a tax collector, even a zealot.
Their only credential? Availability. Today, He still sends unlikely people (you included!) to heal brokenness and proclaim His Kingdom. The disciples’ “playbook” was simple: trust His authority, go where He sends, and speak His words. There’s no complex strategy, just radical obedience and unwavering faith in the Coach who knows every play.
You don’t need a perfect résumé to answer God’s audacious call—just a willing heart ready to hit the field.
Where is He sending you today? Your family? Your workplace? Your neighborhood? Go, and run His plays!

A Journey of Reflection and Action

After reading this reflection, take 10–15 minutes to journal where you feel God might be “putting you in the game” right now—your home, workplace, church, or community. Meditate on Matthew 10:1–5 and ask God to reveal your next steps. Share this message with a friend or small group and discuss what it means to be available rather than qualified. Consider memorizing the phrase “Just run the plays I taught you” as a spiritual reminder to trust and obey God’s instructions daily.

Join Us in Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing the unlikely, the ordinary, and the overlooked to carry out Your extraordinary purposes. I surrender my doubts and fears and offer You my availability. Use me, Lord. Teach me to trust Your playbook, to follow where You send, and to speak boldly in Your name. Help me walk in faith, not perfection. Amen.
